Welcome to your union! Whether you're new to UAW 2750 or have been here for years, this is your hub for getting involved, staying informed, and connecting with your coworkers across NIH.
(Y)our History
UAW 2750 didn't come from nowhere. Fellows across NIH spent years organizing, and in 2023 we won our union. In 2024, we ratified our first contract. Read the full history.
And we're part of something larger. UAW 2750 is the first higher education union in UAW Region 8 and the first federal union in the UAW. We work alongside other unions through the AFL-CIO of Maryland, collaborate with UAW locals across sectors and institutions through Region 8, and are active in the UAW's Higher Education department — working with unions representing researchers, postdocs, grad workers, and faculty at institutions including Johns Hopkins, the University of Washington, Caltech, the University of California, Columbia, UPenn, and more. Our solidarity extends beyond NIH, because a fair future for Fellows is bound up with a fair future for all workers.
Participating in building a strong union for all Fellows
The heart of our union is the membership meeting, held monthly, where Fellows come together to make decisions, discuss our work, and set the direction of our union. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Our union is led by Fellows, for Fellows. The Executive Board consists of nine elected coworkers responsible for administering the local and carrying out the vision and decisions set by the full membership. Head Stewards represent Fellows across NIH's campuses and districts, meeting quarterly alongside the Executive Board to align resources and build leadership union-wide. And Stewards are trained coworkers responsible for regularly checking in with Fellows in their area, educating members about their rights, and helping enforce our contract— any member can become a steward. We also have a growing number of committees and working groups run and led by Fellows, including the Organizing Committee, Citizenship and Legislative (CAP) Committee, Education Committee, Elections Committee, International Fellows Working Group, and more. Standing Committees and new groups form as members identify needs and take initiative together.
